ET 501: not too bad

I flew on Ethiopian Air flight 501 nonstop Washington-Dulles to Addis Ababa. Since my flights had been changed since ticketing I had a fun “flight coupon required” on my Ethiopian segment so I went to the gate agent to sort it out.

He punched a few keys and got the eticket sorted properly and handed me a boarding pass with a sticker to indicate my boarding group. Then the gate agent weighed my roller bag. He said it could only be 15 pounds and it was 23. He asked what I wanted to do about it. I said I put it in the overhead and I wasn’t sure why that would be a problem. He then said he would have to change my seat. I had 12C which is the aisle of the window section. He then asked if I preferred aisle or window and I said window and he gave me 37A. I’m not quite sure why the seat made a difference when I wasn’t in a bulkhead, but I didn’t want to argue.

Service was great. The food was edible, but I expected better. I had a open middle (as did most people in my section) so it was as comfortable as coach can be. The in flight entertainment had plenty of English movies and i watched The Internship, Monsters U, and then some TV shows.

We arrived ontime at 6:45 AM.

  1. It’s a good carrier. I traveled numerous times from Nairobi to Addis Abba and from Addis Abba to Djibouti. Flight attendants are exceptional with a genuine smile, welcoming on board.
