I added the Chase Ink Bold

Note, I have no credit card affiliate links.  I post about cards because I genuinely signed up for them to meet some need.

I’m finally catching on to doing more signup bonuses and with the removal of internet, cable, cellular phone, and landline phone as bonus categories on the American Express Hilton HHonors Surpass it was time to find a card to fill that gap.  The Chase Ink Bold is currently running a signup bonus of 50,000 UR points after you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months and the $95 annual fee is waived the first year.  This is a business card which means you should have a business need for the card.  Other BA bloggers cover how to handle the registration page for the card.  I wasn’t really thinking and listed Fly Gracefully as my business instead of just putting my last name as instructed so my card says my blog name.  I thought about it right after I hit submit, but oh well.

I applied on Memorial Day and it did not instantly approve me (as pretty much all the posts will tell you).  I try to avoid calling for important things after business hours so I waited until around noon on Tuesday to call the business reconsideration line (800-453-9719).  I gave the lady my information and asked what else she needed to approve me and she said I had already been approved that morning.  She didn’t ask me anything about my business.

My card arrived June 3rd and I changed my recurring payments for cell phone, landline phone, and internet over to the Ink Bold.

Now that I get 5X at office stores I might start looking at beans, but I can make the $5,000 in spending on my own.  I would just be nice to be able to pay the mortgage and car payment and earn points.

The part I’m still trying to make sense of is the 2x on hotels.

My hotels are booked on a corporate website (I tried to book through the UR portal and always found horrible rates so I stick to the corporate booking site).  I’m obviously not searching for the correct terms because I’m still hunting for what that means to me since my non-Hilton hotels will be paid by this card at least until the signup bonus is reached.

I also made sure to head over to MasterCard Easy Savings to make sure everything was OK.  I had to create a new Easy Savings account because I couldn’t add this card to my old profile from my Citi Professional (defunct) card.

The What’s in My Wallet is updated.  I’m taking out the US Airways MasterCard (and I’m leaning strongly to cancelling it when the annual fee comes due) and adding in the Chase Ink Bold.  After I meet this minimum spend the plan is to get the Chase Ink Plus and wash/rinse/repeat.

  1. That’s funny. I just read your post and that’s exactly what I did last week. I’m a Hilton guy and I have the Amex Hilton card also. Ever since they discontinued the cable/internet bonus points, I’ve been looking for another card to replace it. Found the Ink card and applied for it. Like you, I didn’t get instantly approved either but got an email a couple days later saying that I was approved. Only difference though is I use my Ink card for my Hilton stays also. Ever since they devalued their HHonors points, I find it not worth it to rack up my Hilton points anymore. Instead, I use the Ink card for the two UR points for my hotel stays. I can then transfer them to my United miles for a 1:1 exchange. Seems more lucrative to me.

  2. Grace, when you pay your hotel charges with your Ink card, you’ll automatically get 2 points per dollar. It will show up on your statement as 1 base point per dollar and 1 bonus point.

Thanks for linking to my site, by the way!
