Weekly Recap: Week of June 3

Monday: a logo with text on it
Work from home day (I guess I should specify I have not actual office so this is all I have.)

Tuesday:
Flew from CLT-DTW-MDW and drove down to Indiana.  Stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Hammond, IN.  The hotel seemed quite expensive for a suburban Chicago Fairfield at $142/night, but I didn’t check other hotels and as a whole hotels seem to be more expensive these days.  The staff was very courteous and the hotel was nice for a FI.  I usually don’t stay at that brand, but didn’t realize there was a Courtyard (and Residence Inn) next door.  The pool was full of families when I checked in an my room was right next to the pool, but there was no noise from the pool or highway.  In this area I usually stay at the Hampton Inn Munster, but it was all booked.  I ate dinner at Maria’s, a local Mexican restaurant with high reviews on Yelp, but I was not impressed and it is cash only.  They were pretty clear with the cash only policy at the restaurant so it was my choice to eat there, but the food was not impressive.

Wednesday:
Drove from Munster down to Terre Haute, IN and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn.  The hotel was a typical Hilton Garden Inn (which is a good thing).  I ate dinner at the restaurant and service was a little slow.  I got some Thai chicken pasta and it tasted good, but had a very processed look to it.

Thursday:
Drove up to IND and flew home.  Thank goodness for google maps when I70 was shut down so I quickly got my coworker routed to the airport.  I tried to SDC since I got to the airport early.  I wasn’t able to SDC, but I was able to stand-by and cleared for earlier flights in both IND and DTW.  In DTW my name went from the “Standby” list to not on any list so I waited until all passengers had boarded to ask the gate agent if I cleared or not.  He gave me a middle seat.  Sucks more than my first class seat on the later flight, but I like getting home 2 hours earlier and it’s just over an hour long flight.  I also had to check my bag since the overhead bins were full.  Baggage claim at CLT took forever.

Friday:
Work from home day.

So that brings me to:

Marriott: 1 night – 43 nights total

For extra credit reading:
I went camping over the weekend in a mud bog in South Carolina. I must say…sleeping in the back of my Escape with the seats down is very comfortable.  I just run the A/C for a bit and it’s good-to-go for a while!  I’m kinda tempted to do a cross country trip in my car one of these days and cheap it out and sleep in the car.
